Hi Everyone,

Knowing that the weather can be very unpredictable this time of year a little run is being planned for March 20th. That Saturday we all could meet and drive to VIRginia International Raceway for the SCCA March Memories event. That weekend there will be multiple classes of cars there including Spec Miatas. This is a SCCA event and not an official VIR event but SCCA welcomes spectators for $10 per person. I talked with the Regional Executive for the SCCA and she said for me to get in touch with her before we come and she will get us in. Whether that means for free or reduced price, I'm not sure, but it sounds promising. We would spend a few hours spectating and checking out the racecars and then we could go on a run of our own after watching all the racing on the track and maybe end up at the Roxboro Country Club Steakhouse (Chub Lake) for supper. If the weather turns off lousy we can easily cancel with no repurcutions (sp?) So if this sounds acceptable we'll plan for that. I will post the meeting time and place later.

later,

We are up for this. The winter has forced me to drive the truck for almost two full weeks.

Hi John,

The schedule for VIR on March 20th is as follows. The track goes green at 8:25 am with ten minute Practice sessions for Groups 1 - 6. There will then be qualifying sessions for Group 7, 6, 5 and 8. Lunch will then be taken and the Carolina Cup Pro Series racers will set up the pits for their race later in the afternoon. Qualifying for the other groups 1 -4 will commence and then the Carolina Cup race. The only actual race on Saturday is the CCPS race in the mid afternoon unless they run the Qualifying Sessions as Qualifying races which they sometimes do. The CCPS race will include classes ITA-C, ITS, IT&, Spec Miata, SSB, SSC, and Spec Racer Fords. Last year they had over 30 cars for this race. I've been told that they have almost 200 cars entered for that weekend. Hope this gives you an answer to your question. The North Carolina Region (NCR) SCCA website has a lot of info about this event and more if you're interested. http://www.ncrscca.com/
Should be fun.

I'm hoping to come, maybe both Saturday and Sunday. Not sure I'll be driving my Miata, though, engine transplant still underway!

FYI - BRMC member Scott Malbon will be racing his SpecMiata at VIR. Stop by and see him (#54, right Scott?)

I just looked at some old picturs of Scott's car -- his race number is #52, and the car is white with a red hardtop.

Hi All,

Sorry for dropping the ball on this event a little. My Mom got put in the hospital yesterday and my focus has been diverted as a result. I guess the first thing we need to establish is approximately how many folks plan on attending. If possible we should try to meet up possible somewhere in Danville and then drive to VIR as a group. The Regional Executive for the SCCA said if I could give her an idea of how many folks we might have she would maybe cut us a deal on the admission. So if we meet somewhere in Danville, say the Danville Visitors Center on the Rt 29 Danville Expressway at 11:00am Saturday, and then drive to the track from there. We can spend a few hours at the track and then go for a run later that afternoon.

Everyone that is planning on going post a reply so we can get a ballpark count.

Thanks.

robert clifton

I'm coming. I may already be there by the time you all arrive, but if I'm running late I'll meet you in Danville as noted. Won't be driving a Miata, though.

Hi All,

The March event to VIR for the SCCA races on Saturday has been cancelled. My Mom is still in the hospital and many other members had other things going on so we will try for April. Hope to see you in April.

I went on Sunday afternoon, met up with Scott Malbon who was running in the SM/ITB/SSB race. Scott did pretty well, finishing a couple of places ahead of his qualifying position. There were over 50 entrants in this, the last race of the day -- plenty of action!

If you get the chance, you should really come out and watch the SpecMiata's run sometime -- it's impressive to see how quick and sharp handling a Miata can be with a few simple modifications! This is a very competitive class with lots of passing and action -- a couple of spins, but no serious sheetmetal damage. Check 'em out next time they're at VIR.
