Here are some notes from the 01/24/2004 meeting of the Blue Ridge Miata Club for those who were unable to attend.

Jonathan

----------------------------------------

Ryan's Family Steak House
361 E. Commonwealth Blvd.
Martinsville, VA 24112
276-634-5335

Attendees

The following people attended the meeting and brought along 15 Miatas:

  • Danville: Robert Clifton
  • Danville: Debra Dodson
  • Danville: Jeff Dodson
  • Danville: Tom Elliott
  • Danville: Gary Morefield
  • Danville: Jack Walters
  • Danville: Cindy Wilborne
  • Danville: Ed Wilborne
  • Lynchburg: Heath Steadman
  • Martinsville: Beverly Patterson
  • Martinsville: Darryl Patterson
  • New River Valley: Sarah Liddle
  • New River Valley: Martin Maples
  • New River Valley: Mark Mattson
  • Roanoke: Kim Brown
  • Roanoke: Roger Huffman
  • Roanoke: Larry Martin
  • Roanoke: Jonathan Shewbridge
  • Roanoke: Allen Spell
  • Roanoke: Sherri Spell
  • Winston-Salem: Mark Spell
  • Winston-Salem: Bernie Spell

Several potential events were discussed, including:

  • D-Day Memorial
  • Tech(nical) Days
  • A club-sponsored, overnight trip to Biltmore Estates, possibly in the spring
  • Miatas in the Blue Ridge in the fall
  • An overnight trip to Wintergreen
  • A trip to Mountain Lake
  • MDA Car Show

In February, an Event Committee will be formed to plan and schedule the events for the year. If you an idea for an event, please contact any of the club officers (listed below). All suggestions are appreciated. Also, if you are willing to help staff or plan an event, please contact any of the club officers. As I am sure you are aware, a properly staffed event tends to go much more smoothly than an event that is short-handed.

As part of the reorganization after the December Office Election, the club will extend one free additional year of membership to all current club members, meaning that the dues for all current members will expire on 09/30/04. Here is a draft of what the membership roster looks like:

http://users.adelphia.net/~1shew/MembersPage.htm

Please review the draft of the membership roster and let me know if any corrections need to be made so I can get the final changes posted to the club web site in the next week or so. For those former members who did not join last year (i.e., if your name does not appear on the above draft of the membership roster), the annual renewal dues will continue to be $24. You can make your check payable to "Blue Ridge Miata Club."

In a subsequent meeting of the Board of Directors (i.e., the club officers), it was suggested that the dues renewal date be moved to 03/01 of each year (meaning that renewal for existing members could move to 03/01/05) since a March renewal date more closely marks the beginning of the Miata driving season than an October renewal date does. The officers plan to bring this potential change before the club at the next meeting. Also, the amount for dues renewal may change at some point in the future. More discussion needs to take place before any decision is made on this item.

The club checking account balance is currently $1,256.95. Out of this balance, the club has several commitments that need to be paid for the upcoming year:

  • Club insurance for events (note that this is *NOT* automobile owners insurance--you still need to maintain your own personal automobile insurance for all of your cars)
  • Internet domain name renewal (i.e., www.blueridgemiataclub.org)
  • Other expenses that will be identified

What have you set as your Internet home page? If you haven't already done so, please consider making the club your home page:
