Here are tentative plans for the August event: Where: Galax (probably meet at Sonic on 58) When: Sat 8/16/2003 9:30 AM What: drive (probably Lambsburg Mtn, Blue Ridge Parkway etc) Eat: Tlaquepaque Mexican Restaurant What after lunch: Visit local car museum or do other runs (I'll have maps).Any comments or questions? I'm still working on details. If 9:30 is too early, let me know. Sonic now serves breakfast and is a 50's style drive-in if you're not familiar with it-- they have car gatherings there some summer evenings. ------------------

Mark, I would like to make this event, you said if 9:30 is too early to let you know. According to mapquest.com it is 106.49 miles or 2hr. 42min. from Danville, I would have to leave Danville about 6:30 am. A later starting time would work better for me and maybe for some of the others. From Martinsville it is 68.96 miles or 1hr 53 min. From Roanoke 97.64 miles or 1hr. 41 min. This is just a suggestion.......Tom IP: 24.51.158.136 |

OK-- I guess 9:30 is just too early. How about meeting at Sonic in Galax (Rt 58, can't miss it-- on the right) at 10A, with plans to leave for the run at 10:30. That should still get us back for lunch between 12:30 and 1PM. Hope to see a good bunch there. I will notify the Mexican restaurant on Friday of the estimated head count, so please let me know if you're coming. See you all Saturday! Mark MattsonIP: 65.40.124.152 |

I will not be able to participate in this event, however I look forward to being involved in the near future. My new knee is now 8 weeks old and doing great. I am back at school and have been driving my Miata. I still have pain but I can go up and down steps better than before surgery. I am told that I will continue to improve for the next year. Hope you guys have a great time. I check back for future plans.IP: 166.82.184.188 |

Here are some computer generated directions help you plan your trip to Galax. Please be aware that computer generated directions are not always perfect--they are approximate… Mark Matttson’s sent me these additional directions for when you reach Galax: quote:
The directions to Galax are fairly simple-- exit 14 off I 77 which is Hwy 58-- head west to Galax. Sonic is on 58 just west of a stoplight and just across from Burger King (and just west and on the opposite side from the Mexican restaurant I plan for us to go to.) People can plan to come via Rt 8 and 221 if they want. That leads into 58 near Hillsville. Danville folks probably could come via 58 all the way-- it's long, but that's how my wife and I went to the Danville event and it's a pretty drive.
Just a note: if you are coming from Danville, there is some nice twisty road near Stuart on Route 58. Danville (Intersection of Route 29 and Route 58):

Larry, We're going to Galax by 81 to 100 to 221 to 58 into Galax. This is about an hour quicker and 100 is a very scenic drive. We plan on leaving at 9am if weather permits. I've been watching the national radar service to track the storm. We plan to get to Sonic about 10:15am. We welcome company if anyone wants to go this route. -MartinIP: 12.91.177.164 |

Mark, Larry and Barbara will be joining us on the ride up. We plan on leaving at 9 and hopefully will arrive by 10:30. We're unsure if the weather will slow us up or not. The radar service seems to show the storm is out of the Galax area but still on 81. -MartinIP: 12.91.177.176 |

Why couldn't this beautiful morning have occurred yesterday? I'm giving a quick overview of the part of the day in which we participated.Feel free to add to the description. After a harrowing drive to Galax, the weather turned and we had a perfect overcast sky for the drive. Thank you Mark and Ruth for taking the lead in this event. We enjoyed seeing everyone and Martin and I plan to make the drive again { at a slower pace} so we can appreciate the beautiful scenery and make the necessary stops-Levering Orchard ,rental cottages overlooking Piedmont N.C.,overlooks on the BRP. You introduced us to a beautiful part of Carroll Co. Those attending were: Darryl and Beverly Patterson,Mark and Bernie Spell, Tom Elliot,Larry and Bubbles Martin,Martin Maples and Sarah Liddle, and of course, Mark and Ruth. We have missed the fun this group can generate. Looking forward to the next get together. Sarah IP: 12.91.176.180 |
