This is the original Tuesday Car Table that started it all!

This year, Tuesday Car Table celebrates five years of combining lunch with talk about cars. We ran our first notice of the new venture, the brainchild of our beloved Denise McCluggage, in the Saturday, June 22, 2002, edition of Cars & Trucks — which later became Drive — explaining that we were planning to kick off a “weekly gathering of car buffs of all orders” at noon that July 2.

In the intervening years, not much has changed: We still meet Tuesdays at noon, and everyone’s invited. The venue has changed, but the Santa Fe Bar & Grill in DeVargas Center has been a comfortable home for many years now. Owner Robbie Day has been taking good care of us, and the parking lot is an ideal place to wander among assembled cars.

Topics tend to be quite varied during lunch, but one thing that stays the same: A great number of those who’ve tried Car Table have come to make it part of their weekly rounds. Many of us have made good friends; a number of the people whose stories you read in Drive met up there; and we’ve enjoyed many a get-together, whether for go-karting in Albuquerque or leisurely drives around Northern New Mexico.
